The Brook Berringer Citizenship Team was established by the Husker football program in honor of former Nebraska quarterback Brook Berringer, who died in a plane crash in April of 1996.  Brook was a member of NU’s back-to-back national championship teams in ’94 and ’95.  Following his death, his mother Jan co-authored the book “One Final Pass” that sold more than 60,000 copies to fans who loved and admired Brook.

Fans and friends were not prepared for the shocking news that Brook’s plane had crashed only a few months after his final football season. But Brook was prepared. Jesus said, “If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am” (John 14:3). Jesus went on to say, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no man comes to the Father but through me” (John 14:6).

Brook Berringer was prepared for April 18, 1996, the day of his death, because he trusted in Jesus Christ. Only weeks before his crash, Art Lindsay the co-author of “One Final Pass” asked him, “Brook, what do you want to see happen in the next four to five years?” referring to pro football. Brook replied, “Art, all I really want is to grow in my relationship with Jesus Christ. This is the greatest thing that ever happened to me.”
